GlaxoSmithKline
GSK and its heritage companies have been committed to advancing knowledge in the field of oncology for more than 60 years. From the decades-long partnership of Nobel laureates Gertrude Elion and Dr George Hitchings, whose work led to the development of medicines that block nucleic acid synthesis in cancer cells, to the discovery, development and introduction of the first oral, targeted therapy for HER2 positive breast cancer, our research has resulted in new therapeutics to improve the lives of cancer patients.
GSK is searching for new cancer treatments that attack the disease on several fronts. GSK is closing in on cancer from all sides with a new generation of patient-focused cancer treatments in prevention, supportive care, chemotherapy and targeted therapies. Just one example of this commitment: GSK has invested significant resources in Prostate Cancer research.
It is also critical that life-saving medicines are available for patients who can benefit from them. Last year, GSK patient assistance programs provided free or low cost medicines for many diseases to more than 484,000 eligible patients at a value of almost $388 million—more than $1 million each day.
As part of GSK’s involvement in Stand Up To Cancer, the company will provide financial support to the program’s designated research efforts and will conduct a major public health education campaign focused on helping men and their loved ones stand up to prostate cancer.
GSK is proud to be a part of this groundbreaking initiative – we are honored to Stand Up To Cancer with you. For more information on GSK, visit www.gsk.com.
The V Foundation, GlaxoSmithKline and Stand Up To Cancer have partnered on Life: Interrupted, a campaign to educate men about the reality of prostate cancer and encourage them to take control of their prostate health before it interrupts their lives. Visit JimmyV.org regularly for updates on Life: Interrupted.
