Our Nation's Hunger Crisis
Nutritional Deprivation

Hunger in America is quite different than often seen developing countries where starvation and hunger have a very dramatic and visible characteristic on the people suffering. In the U.S., hunger manifests itself in a less obvious manner but ultimately it is just as harmful to the body and the brain.

Poor economic resources for American families often result in what is commonly called "food insecurity" - the inability to adequately meet the basic needs for nutrition at all times. This very dangerous situation often forces caring family members to make choices between food and other necessities. As in any precarious situation, developing
children, unable to make choices for themselves,
are at the greatest risk.
