EIF Mourns the Death of Our Friend Dr. Marty Abeloff

Dr. Martin D. Abeloff, director of the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center and longtime advisor to the Entertainment Industry Foundation on our Women’s Cancer Programs, died September 14 of leukemia. Dr. Abeloff, a world renowned authority on the treatment of breast cancer, was 65 years old. We mourn his loss, and our hearts go out to his wife Diane and all of his family, colleagues and friends.

Dr. Abeloff helped shape EIF’s work in the women’s cancer arena from the outset. In 2004, Dr. Abeloff was appointed Co-Chair of EIF’s Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project Oversight Committee. In this capacity, Dr. Abeloff and a group of world-class scientists have been collaborating to develop a blood test that will detect breast cancer in its beginning stages, when it can be cured.
