EIF SNAPSHOT – APRIL 2022 |
FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO |
Dear Friends,
This year marks EIF’s 80th anniversary, and I’m proud to say that, eight decades after its inception, EIF continues to fulfill the vision of its founders. Hollywood icons Samuel Goldwyn, Humphrey Bogart, Joan Crawford, James Cagney, and the Warner Brothers recognized the influence and reach of the entertainment industry in raising funds and awareness for those in need and committed to using the power of the industry to help people around the world. In the early days of EIF, that included support of wartime agencies like the USO and helping to eradicate polio. Today, we have created campaigns that focus on disaster relief, health, educational and social issues. The pressing issues of the day may have changed, but our commitment to philanthropy and the reliability of our community to step up in times of need remain firmly in place.
An important part of our work at EIF is serving as a resource for philanthropists in our community, helping them to fulfill their own vision for a more just and equitable world. To that end, we welcome our newest philanthropic partner, the Roybal School of Film and Television Fund. Founded by George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Bryan Lourd, among others, and in partnership with the CAA Foundation, the Fund was created to support the infrastructure, equipment, and curriculum of the Roybal School of Film and Television Production Magnet School, an arts magnet high school within the Los Angeles Unified School District. The Roybal School of Film and Television Fund will contribute to a more inclusive pipeline of historically underrepresented college- and career-ready students interested in the film and television industries.
Whether through our own programs or by helping to shepherd the efforts of our partners, we are proud to continue the good work that our founders started in 1942. Thank you for your support in making EIF the entertainment community’s trusted partner in philanthropy.

JOIN SUPPORT EFFORTS |
AMERICARES UKRAINE PSA CAMPAIGN |
EIF is partnering with Americares in distributing public service announcements amplifying the ongoing need for Ukrainian relief efforts. Americares has Emergency Response Teams on the ground in Poland and Romania, assessing health needs and coordinating shipments of medicine and supplies for Ukraine. Americares' response is focused on delivering medicine and medical supplies, supporting health services, and providing mental health and psychosocial support to refugees and survivors who have experienced trauma.
Akim Aliu, Ukrainian-Canadian former NHL player and co-founder of EIF fund Hockey Diversity Alliance, has recorded an Americares radio PSA that will reach millions of people and calls for public support of those experiencing critical need in this humanitarian crisis. Heartbroken by the devastation being experienced in his childhood community, Akim is urging all of us outside the conflict zone to give what we can.
Actor, director, and activist Tony Goldwyn—Americares Board Director and grandson of EIF founder Samuel Goldwyn—has also stepped up to publicly rally support for Ukrainians in need.
EIF remains in service to the industry by amplifying critical needs and increasing impact. Please contact us to find out how to get involved.

SOCIAL CHANGE FUND UNITED |
Social Change Fund United (SCFU) was founded by Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony in response to the continued racial injustice across the country. SCFU seeks to use collective influence and resources to make a greater impact in underrepresented Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color across the pillars of public safety and criminal justice reform, civic engagement, economic investment, arts and education, and health equity.
Since its launch in July of 2020, SCFU provided students with technology to support their transition to virtual learning, impacting more than 20,000 students and teachers. Its Gamechangers fellowship empowered students pursuing careers in sports with the skills needed to advocate for their communities. SCFU granted scholarships to Black students pursuing mental health careers and also provided 300 youth with savings accounts. During elections, the nonprofit provided rides to the polls for HBCU students. In the area of criminal justice reform, SCFU committed $450,000 through social justice grant programs to address the unjust criminal justice system.
In each of their five pillars of focus, SCFU is advancing its mission to create a fair and equitable society for all. |

Know Your Rights Camp Launches "Autopsy Initiative" |
PHILANTHROPIC PARTNER SPOTLIGHT |
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS CAMP |
In February, Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp (KYRC) launched its Autopsy Initiative, a first-of-its-kind program that offers free-of-charge secondary autopsies to family members of those whose lives have been taken as a result of a police-related death. The initiative collaborates with a panel of highly respected board-certified forensic pathologists who perform autopsies, disclose preliminary findings, and issue final reports to requesting families. The Autopsy Initiative seeks to be a resource to the victim’s family members by providing confidence in the forensic procedures used and comfort that the pathologists will conduct the autopsy while operating from a place of sensitivity, respect, and neutrality. Said Kaepernick, “The Autopsy Initiative is one important step toward ensuring that family members have access to accurate and forensically verifiable information about the cause of death of their loved one in their time of need.”
Know Your Rights Camp’s mission is to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass mobilization, and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders. |

GOOD CITY MENTORS |
Good City Mentors is a grantee of The Kevin Love Fund, a philanthropic partner of EIF.
With the grant from the Kevin Love Fund, Good City Mentors partnered inspiring professionals and creative brands with high school students in Los Angeles to empower youth through school-day mentorship. Professionals from the sports and entertainment industry met weekly with 47 students, ages 14-18, for virtual mentorship lessons guided by Good City Mentors’ Personal Leadership Development and Career Readiness team. Youth were empowered to commit to personal growth. Through consistent connection with large and small groups, the youth were encouraged to share “takeaways” from the lessons, which prompted the journey of building meaningful relationships with their peers and mentors. |
