EIF SNAPSHOT – SEPTEMBER 2022 |
FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO |
Dear Friends,
|
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending “She Is The Music Day,” a series of panels and workshops for female college students in New York that culminated with music performances by Chelsea Cutler and Moon Kissed. More than 100 women gathered to hear from music industry executives Sam Kirby Yoh, Caroline Williams, Ann Mincieli, and Kathy Baker who offered insight into marketing, production and engineering, touring, and events. The event was hosted by Amazon Music and Universal Music Group and was vibrant and inspiring.
|
Led by a group of influential female leaders in the music industry, She Is The Music was launched in 2018 to create equality, inclusivity, and opportunity for women in music, increasing the number of women working in the industry – songwriters, engineers, producers, artists, and industry professionals. A philanthropic partner of EIF, She Is The Music has hosted more than 15 Songwriting Camps in the U.S. and internationally, three Global Mentorship programs, and several more events and workshops since its launch and continues to grow and flourish.
|
Our team at EIF is incredibly proud to support the work of this dynamic group of women. The experience of “She Is The Music Day” illustrated the power of a collective in service to others and was a salve for the past couple of years that lacked the joy of gathering together. We are profoundly grateful for the inspiring work of all of our partners.
|
Thank you for your continued support of EIF.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT |
EIF CAREERS PROGRAM |
Launched in 2021, the EIF Careers Program (EIFCP) serves as the bridge between pipeline training program alumni and entertainment industry employers searching for talent from historically excluded communities. Last summer, EIFCP began a partnership with Best Buy to support talent trained at its Teen Tech Centers in fields such as filmmaking, digital media, audio engineering, and music production by building pathways to employment in the entertainment industry. The Teen Tech Centers offer students an after-school program to learn the latest in technology.
|
The partnership with EIFCP is part of Best Buy’s $10 million commitment to youth in disinvested communities in Los Angeles. A collaboration between the Greater LA Education Foundation and the Annenberg Foundation, the project is called the Community Impact Hub and aims to add nine new Teen Tech Centers to the three that currently exist in LA. EIFCP will help forge a pathway for alumni from the program to secure jobs in entertainment, ultimately building a more diverse talent pipeline into film, television, and music careers. |

PHILANTHROPIC PARTNER SPOTLIGHT |
OSCAR'S KIDS |
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Our philanthropic partners, Melissa and Winston Rauch, with the help of Audi and Omaze, have organized a sweepstakes to support Oscar’s Kids. Enter to win Audi’s newest electric car, the RS e-tron GT and be the first to take home a limited Year One Edition. Your support will help fund vital research for childhood cancer. Deadline for entries is October 14.
|
Oscar’s Kids is dedicated to defeating pediatric cancer and giving families support, care, and uplifting “magic” through Oscar Keogh’s legacy. A young fan, Oscar befriended actress Melissa Rauch (The Big Bang Theory) when he reached out to her for an autograph when he was four years old and on a cancer journey. The request sparked a lasting and meaningful relationship between the two families. After Oscar’s devastating passing, Melissa, her husband Winston Rauch, and Oscar’s devoted parents, Yavanna and Lar, founded Oscar’s Kids to fund vital worldwide research into pediatric cancers, as well as to offer comfort, joy, and support to families on their cancer journey.
|
For her leading advocacy work on behalf of Oscar’s Kids, Melissa was honored at the Creative Coalition’s 2022 Television Humanitarian Awards on September 11. |

PHILANTHROPIC PARTNER SPOTLIGHT |
SHE IS THE MUSIC |
Following the success of “She Is The Music Day” in New York, She Is The Music (SITM), will host its first Songwriting Camp in Ghana in partnership with YouTube. The camp, set for September 21, will serve as an opportunity to highlight international music in Africa and work with local songwriters and artists during Global Citizen Week. The nonprofit has hosted more than a dozen songwriter camps around the world attended by more than 200 women. Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, and Cyndi Lauper are just a few major artists who have led the camps and provided feedback on tracks. Each camp averages 10-12 participants comprised of women songwriters, producers and engineers from different parts of the world, all collaborating to create fully female tracks. Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer Tems will serve as the focus artist in Ghana.
|
She Is The Music (SITM) is increasing the number of women working in music – songwriters, engineers, producers, artists and industry professionals. A first-of-its-kind collaboration spanning the music industry, SITM is powered by creators, publishers, record labels, talent agencies, industry groups, music companies, streaming services, and more. SITM operates as a unifying organization for women from across the industry, creating strength and impact on a global scale. SITM programs include an all-female songwriting series, an industry database of women creators, and a mentorship program. The organization’s initiatives serve women in the industry today while fostering the development of future generations. |

PSA SPOTLIGHT |
CENTER FOR COUNTERING DIGITAL HATE |
Digital technology has changed the way we communicate, build and maintain relationships, set social standards, and negotiate and assert our society’s values.
|
These spaces, however, are often rife with bad actors spreading hate and disinformation, causing considerable real-world harm.
|
That’s why The Center for Countering Digital Hate has partnered with EIF to launch a new radio public service announcement (PSA) campaign to engage and empower Americans to help combat misinformation and hate on online media platforms. The Center works with academics and practitioners in fields such as political science, behavioral psychology, neurology, the law, counterterrorism, and child protection to develop strategies that strengthen tolerance and democracy and counter new forms of hate and disinformation. |
