SUMMARY

Know Your Rights Camp (“KYRC”), a fund of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (“EIF” or the “Foundation”), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, is seeking a Director of Development. KYRC is a Black-led, youth-serving racial justice organization with national reach seeking to empower Black and Brown communities through political education, mass-mobilization, and culture, narrative, and policy change. The ideal candidate is an advocate and an evangelist for the power of the community to make a difference in lives. The Director of Development will play a critical strategic and operational role in shaping the Fund’s future in the areas of fundraising, programming, partnerships, and initiative-building. In particular, the Director of Development will bring demonstrated success in building and leading a development team.

The Director of Development will be an entrepreneurial and energetic development professional with a passion for the mission of the Fund. This individual will have the ability to develop comprehensive individual and institutional strategies that build the Fund’s capacities, and a track record of competing successfully for philanthropic support. The individual will have major gifts and special events experience and the willingness to work closely with the Advisory Board and senior staff to maximize fundraising from institutional sources; including foundations, and corporate sponsors. The Director of Development will be able to successfully  steward  and  strengthen relationships with current and prospective funders.

This hands-on role requires ongoing communication and coordination with the Fund’s founders, executive team, fiscal sponsor (EIF), corporate partners, donors, advocates, activists, organizers, and the organizations and campaigns the Fund supports. This hybrid position is located in Los Angeles, CA, and requires in-office work three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday, subject to change).

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the creation, implementation and analysis of all fundraising strategies and operations using best industry practices, data and research, to set goals across all contributed income lines
  • Plan, execute and evaluate all annual giving activities, including direct mail and special events with an emphasis on increasing revenue and renewals through year-round cultivation
  • Develop and execute practices to deepen and steward donors
  • Create collateral and related materials for fundraising activities
  • Manage full-time development staff and contractors to achieve annual goals
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to execute fundraising messaging and appeals
  • Develop and lead fundraising strategy to finance strategic plan, programming, and existing commitments, which includes campaign development and execution, corporate sponsor development, and personnel recruitment
  • Strengthen and grow the Fund’s donor base by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospective donors and partners
  • Oversee all of the Fund’s fundraising events/activities/cause-marking opportunities
  • Develop program budget, and carefully manage sponsorship and donation income, as well as all expenses, and manage department budget
  • Develop comprehensive individual and institutional strategies that build the Fund’s capacities, and a track record of competing successfully for philanthropic support in a crowded cultural marketplace
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the founders or other constituents, as requested
  • Manage relationships with selected partners, including donations, programming, talent involvement, and impact reporting
  • Ability to bring individuals into our donor pool and create a system of engaging this top tier of donors
  • Lead communications strategy, working collaboratively with EIF and the Fund and manage all external communications, including social media content, email blasts, press releases, web content, etc.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Minimum of 8 years in a fundraising management position
  • A commitment to Black and Brown liberation, a passion for your people, and dedication to the abolition of policing and prisons.
  • Prior or extensive network for corporate and institutional fundraising
  • Experience in planning, projecting revenue and executing strategy, both short-term and long term
  • Experience in using a disciplined fundraising portfolio and/or tracking systems to monitor, manage and report
  • Experience and excellence in front-line fundraising
  • Experience managing comprehensive campaign strategies and tactics
  • Experience and excellence in Board and donor communication
  • Experience planning and managing fundraising events
  • Experience and knowledge of grant-making
  • Goal and detail-oriented with excellent organizational, writing and communication skills; the ability to work independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities and projects at once from beginning to end
  • Strong editorial sensibility and skill set to effectively develop and communicate case for support to savvy donor base
  • Team player who strives to bring the best out in themselves and others
  • Must be able to work nights and occasional weekends, primarily around events
  • Business acumen with working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Excel


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Some travel may be required

SALARY RANGE: 85-90K
