Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love Launches the Kevin Love Fund to Promote Physical and Mental Wellness

Beneficiaries include Bring Change to Mind, Just Keep Livin’, UCLA Athletics

The Entertainment Industry Foundation and Headspace to serve as partners

SEPTEMBER 19, 2018 – Kevin Love, a five-time NBA All Star and 2016 NBA Champion, is launching the Kevin Love Fund with the mission of inspiring people to live their healthiest lives while providing the tools to achieve physical and emotional well-being. The fund strives to promote the search for help with emotional struggles as a sign of strength and to emphasize that mental wellness challenges those from every walk of life.

“Since I wrote the article in The Players’ Tribune, I realized how large of a community there is of people who are going through something,” said Love.  “I want to normalize the conversation so we can talk about our daily battles more openly and encourage people to actively pursue mental wellness with the same spirit and vigor that they pursue their physical well-being.  This is the core vision of the Kevin Love Fund and is intensely personal to me.  My goal is to continue to do this work throughout my career and beyond.”

The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a philanthropic partner of the entertainment and sports communities, will manage the fund that Love started with a substantial personal contribution.  This launch follows Love’s widely read personal story in THE PLAYERS TRIBUNE that revealed his own struggle with mental wellness. The 30-year-old power forward made the announcement on The Today Showyesterday morning.

Early beneficiaries of the Kevin Love Fund include Bring Change to Mind, created to end the stigma and discrimination around mental health by empowering young people in high school and college; Just Keep Livin’ Foundation, founded by Matthew and Camila McConaughey to empower high school students to lead more active lives and make healthy choices; and UCLA Athletics Department, which influenced Love heavily during his time there as a student and athlete.

In addition to EIF, the Kevin Love Fund is aligning with meditation and mindfulness app Headspace as a strategic partner to support their vision of improving the health and happiness of the world. Headspace is a tool that helps build healthy routines into your daily life with hundreds of sessions ranging from focus, motivation and sleep to stress and anxiety. Headspace will partner with Love to create mindful experiences and mental training programs.
